June 25, 2018
PT PIPA has just completed a water efficiency strategy, advising Mercure Convention Center – Ancol Jakarta (ACCOR Hotels group) between 2012-2014 and 2015-2018.
Further to an initial water audit, several measures were taken to reduce over-consumptions and manage the demand from each user. Baseline and KPI were determined. Deep well was totally stopped, water meters were installed at each identified strategic location allowing daily monitoring, vocational training was provided to staff, leaks reduction campaign was organized, low consumption fixtures installed in addition to efficiency measures like re-using grey water and rain harvesting. Specific discussions with sub-contractors allowed to further reduce water usage from swimming pool and cooling towers. Communication and advocacy towards staff and guests allowed to consolidate the results. Weekly meetings with General Management confirmed the Hotel engagement towards the targets.
Water saving have reached 51% in six years and 10% costs reduction have been enjoyed against an increase of 7% on revenue. The saving is equivalent to a decent consumption of clean water for over 7,300 poor people.
Early 2018, ITP (International Tourism Partnership) organized the “Green Hotelier of the year” competition, bringing together the world’s most powerful hotel companies in an alliance focused on a single ambition: to lead the industry through example with clear and quantifiable commitments to improved sustainability. PT PIPA supported MCC application.
